Position Overview
- Primarily outpatient practice with inpatient consult responsibilities
- Standard office hours:
- Monday–Thursday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Friday: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
- 4.5 days of patient care with 0.5 day of protected administrative time each week
- 36 patient contact hours
- 4 administrative hours
- Call: Approximately 10 days per month
- Supported by telemedicine and a comprehensive tele-stroke program
- Neurologist on call also manages inpatient consults
- Extremely light call—per senior neurologist, only one overnight call-back in the past year
- Stroke care managed through the Medical University of South Carolina tele-stroke program
- ED manages acute stroke evaluations and tPA protocols
- Neurologists are typically not responsible for administering tPA
- Cerner EMR with Dragon dictation
Scope of Practice
- Approximately 80% outpatient / 20% inpatient
- Average patient volume: 18–22 patients per day
- Established physicians may see 25+ patients daily if desired
- Broad spectrum of general neurology including:
- New consultations
- Follow-up visits
- Diagnostic evaluations
- Procedures include:
- EMG
- EEG
- Nerve conduction studies
- Botox injections
- Excellent clinical support:
- On-site EMG technician
- Telemedicine consultation services
- Established tele-stroke program
Advanced Diagnostic Capabilities
- Electroencephalography (EEG) for detecting electrical activity in the brain
- Electromyography (EMG) and Nerve Conduction Studies for evaluating nerve and muscle function
- Advanced neuroimaging including MRI, CT, and specialized brain scans
- Carotid ultrasound and other vascular studies
- Lumbar puncture (spinal tap) capabilities
- Sleep studies for neurological sleep disorders
- Cognitive and neuropsychological testing
Compensation & Benefits:
- Sign-on Bonus: $30k+ sign-on bonus to assist with the transition.
