Seeking a BE/BC Family Medicine physician for a traditional inpatient and outpatient practice in southeast Georgia.
- Adult and pediatric care for all ages in a critical access hospital with a Level I nursery and an adjoining rural health clinic.
- Outpatient/inpatient mix
- Meditech EHR
- Community physicians see their own hospitalized patients; the hospital does not employ hospitalists.
- Average daily hospital census of four.
- Monday–Thursday 8 a.m.–5 p.m.; Friday 8 a.m.–2 p.m. Approximately 25 clinic patients per day.
- Morning hospital rounding before clinic; rounding typically takes approximately 45 minutes. Meditech EHR is used in both the hospital and clinics.
- The rural health clinic also has a full-time FNP and general surgeon, with a pediatrician position being recruited.
- Current call is 1:4 with other hospital providers, soon to be 1:5. The on-call physician covers the medicine service overnight, accepting ER admissions and medical/surgical floor calls. An additional provider and a future nocturnist model are planned.
- Nursery support is required; approximately 180 deliveries annually. A full-time pediatrician is being recruited to provide most newborn coverage.
- New graduates and visa candidates are welcome.
A typical day is AM rounding in the hospital. Our EHR is Meditech in both the hospital and clinics. Most doctors have 4 or 5 patients to round on when the census is at its maximum of 25. We have been running a census of 10 lately. Rounding on average takes 45 minutes. When complete, the physician steps next door to the rural health clinic (RHC) where they can see an average of 25 patients. The RHC also has a full-time FNP, a general surgeon, and a pediatrician (when the position is filled). The medical attending also shares call responsibilities. One doctor will be on call at night for the entire medicine service at the hospital and will accept ER admissions and calls from the medical/surgical floor as needed. The rotation is currently 1:4. We plan to transition to a nocturnist model, where the attending will see their patients in the AM and the nocturnist will handle all ER admissions and medical/surgical issues at night.
