A regional Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in Western Wisconsin is seeking a Blood Bank and Transfusion Medicine Medical Director to provide clinical leadership within a high-volume, comprehensive laboratory system.

Position Highlights:

  • Provide medical direction of the Blood Bank at a regional medical center
  • Consult with medical and surgical colleagues on complex transfusion-related clinical decisions
  • Chair the Transfusion Committee and Transfusion Peer Review Committee
  • Lead comprehensive blood product utilization management initiatives
  • Collaborate with Versiti on blood supply and transfusion services
  • Provide medical direction for one or more rural hospital laboratories, supported by experienced scientific and administrative teams
  • Participate in education for medical students, residents, and fellows
  • Join a transfusion service recognized for strong performance on blood utilization metrics
  • Practice within a laboratory system performing 2.2+ million tests annually and more than 39,000 surgical pathology accessions
  • Work alongside comprehensive laboratory services including flow cytometry, special chemistry, microbiology, immunology, hematology, and point-of-care testing



Clinical Opportunities:

In addition to Blood Bank and Transfusion Medicine leadership, physicians can tailor their clinical responsibilities to their interests and experience, with opportunities that may include:

  • Protein electrophoresis and immunotyping sign-out
  • Medical oversight of the apheresis service
  • Surgical pathology sign-out 1–2 days per week for AP/CP-trained pathologists
  • Outpatient or inpatient hematology practice 1–2 days per week for hematologists
  • Additional specialty-specific clinical services based on training and expertise
  • Research opportunities with institutional support

Qualifications:

  • Board certified or board eligible Pathologist or Hematologist; similarly qualified physicians may be considered
  • Completion of an accredited graduate medical training program
  • Experience in clinical laboratory consultation and education
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to high-quality, patient-centered service
  • Eligible for medical licensure throughout the organization's multi-state service region
  • Ability to supervise advanced practice clinicians
  • Willingness to participate in teaching and outreach responsibilities
